Bletchley Park is a nineteenth-century mansion and estate near Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire that was used during World War II as a base of operations of the Code Breakers. These included Alan Turing who the movie The Imitation Game was about, and you may have heard of the Turing Test.

The Code breakers were famous for breaking the Enigma Machine code, which helped the Allies decipher German and Japanese communication.

More importantly, but less famous was the deciphering of the more secure Lorenz SZ42 which was used by the German High Command. Deciphering this machine is credited for possibly prolonging the war. It may have prolonged it by preventing a German Victory.

I tried to capture the descriptions of the devices and displays wherever possible. Suffice it to say that there were a lot of cipher machines, and information about how the codes were broken and the people that did the work. I didn't trip the pics much, as only a real geek is going to want to see more than a photo or two anyway.

A post would not be complete without at least one motorcycle. Here are a bunch about the dispatch riders and their bikes.

A model of the Bombe Machine. There is a video at the end showing it run, but you can see it in the movie "The Imitation Game". There are some better videos in the Computer Museum post.
